Loft Insulation Grants Scotland

Our service helps people in Scotland get free grants & funding for loft insulation.

Loft Insulation Grants Scotland

It is now possible to get grants for free loft insulation in Scotland thanks to the Government-backed Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme.

Why is this? Grants for loft, cavity wall & internal wall insulation have been introduced in order to reduce the amount of wasted energy in homes, especially for people in fuel poverty. If a house is properly insulated, this lowers energy bills & reduces carbon emissions in Scotland.

The new ECO4 scheme has made grants available until 2026 for eligible households to carry out improvements to make their homes more energy-efficient.

How can we help? We provide a free service to people in Scotland, helping them obtain free grants & funding for loft insulation (and other types of insulation, of course). To date, we have obtained home improvement grants in excess of £3m for our Scottish customers!

There are different schemes available – free grants, interest-free loans & a combination of grant + loan. For example, the Great British Insulation Scheme is an easy way to get free loft insulation. Our team can help establish the most economical way of having your home insulated (and the aim is always to have it done for free).

Please get in touch to ask any questions. Even better, just fill in a few details to check your eligibility & we will call you back.

Why Install Loft Insulation

There are lots of reasons to consider applying for a grant to have loft insulation installed.

Reduced Energy Costs

Proper loft insulation can significantly reduce your energy bills. According to the Energy Saving Trust, insulating a loft can save up to £415 per year in a typical detached house in Scotland.

Enhanced Comfort

Proper loft insulation helps maintain a more consistent and comfortable indoor temperature throughout the year. It prevents cold drafts in winter and keeps the house cooler in summer.

Improved Energy Efficiency

As much as 25% of a home’s heat can be lost through an uninsulated roof, but insulating it can save around 1 tonne of carbon dioxide annually, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

Government Incentives

The availability of grants (e.g. ECO4) & incentives in Scotland can help offset the upfront costs of having your loft insulated, making it an even more attractive investment.

FAQs On Loft Insulation Grants In Scotland:

Can I get a free grant for loft insulation in Scotland?

Yes – eligible homes in Scotland can apply for a free grant to have their loft insulated. However, the Scottish government is looking to improve the overall energy efficiency of homes. This means that free grants for loft insulation are usually awarded for homes installing solar panels & a heat pump at the same time. The good news is that free grants are available for all upgrades.

We can help check if you are eligible for ECO4, ECO4 Flex & any of the other initiatives in Scotland.

What is the ECO4 scheme?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) is the 4th phase of a UK government initiative to address fuel poverty and carbon emissions. Energy companies must implement energy efficiency measures in homes, with flexibility in project selection, funding, and partners.

It began on April 1, 2022, and runs until March 31, 2026. ECO4 targets homes in bands D-G, focusing on comprehensive retrofits to improve the whole house. It mandates upgrades for homes in bands E, F, and G, setting minimum energy efficiency requirements.

These upgrades include insulation, central heating, renewable energy, renewable heating, and district heating connections.

Who is eligible for an ECO4 loft insulation grant in Scotland?

This is an explanation of who is eligible for ECO4 funding in Scotland.

Which companies can I trust to help with ECO4 upgrades & grants?

Energy companies collaborate with third-party retrofit coordinators and installers, like us,  to fulfil their ECO obligations. You may even have been contacted directly by these coordinators or installers regarding ECO4 projects.

Since January 1, 2020, the government has mandated that all installers conducting ECO measures must be a Trustmark Registered Business or an equivalent certification. This requirement also applies to ECO4 measures. When approached by a company claiming to be an installer, it’s crucial to verify their credentials. Look for the following certifications to confirm their registration with a consumer protection body:

  1. For most ECO measures, they should be installed by or under the supervision of a TrustMark-registered installer, identifiable by their registration number.
  2. If the installation involves a district heating connection, the installer must be registered with Heat Trust or have equivalent consumer protection measures in place.
  3. Installers should also possess the relevant certification to uphold installation standards for the specific measure types:
    • Most installations require a PAS (Publicly Available Specification) certified installer with a registration number.
    • When dealing with low-carbon microgeneration measures (e.g., renewable heat production), the installer must be MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited and listed on the MCS website.
    • For gas boiler repairs or replacements, the company should be registered with Gas Safe, which can be verified on the Gas Safe website.
    • For oil boiler repairs, installers must be registered with OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association), and this can be confirmed on the OFTEC website.

Naturally, we tick all of these boxes, so please fill out the questionnaire below to see if we can help you get a grant.

I am worried about scams. Are these grants genuine?

These grants are genuine. The Scottish government has introduced initiatives to reduce fuel poverty & make more homes energy efficient. You can visit their website here if you would like more info – Scottish Energy Grants.

These schemes are not to be confused with so-called “grants” or “funding” to upgrade your windows or bathrooms.
